Sara and Madelyn: Mommy and Me

A few weeks ago, I got off work and it was an absolutely gorgeous day – the kind of day you just can’t let go to waste. So I called up Sara to see if she and Maddie wanted to go get some ice cream, and (not wanting to waste the day herself) they agreed! So we enjoyed the sweet, cool ice cream on the warm afternoon, and as we were leaving decided it was the perfect evening for a Mommy and Me session. So I followed them back to their apartment complex, and in a teeny tiny patch of grass no more than 30 steps from the parking lot, we had what I’m pretty sure is my favorite session to date. It was short, sweet, and simple, but it was magical.

For those of you who don’t know me personally, my mom and I are freakishly close. Think Gilmore Girls-esque. Having known that type of a relationship with my mom, I love watching that kind of a mother-daughter relationship in others. ( That might even be why I’m so attached to Gilmore Girls haha! ) Because of all of that, I LOVE these Mommy and Me sessions. It’s so fun to just watch a mother and her daughter interact, and to capture those moments forever.

Sara, you already know I love you, you are an amazing person, beautiful both inside and out, and you are a magnificent mother and I LOVE watching you interact with your adorable daughter. Maddie is going to grow into a beautiful young woman, I believe because she has such an amazing model in you.

*Warning: This is a seriously long post. The light, the people, the colors…everything was perfect, and it caused my normal tendency to over shoot to go into overdrive!

How can you not love that little face?!

Sometimes Maddie likes to scream, just to see who’s listening.

 Gorgeous girls!!

She was absolutely not a fan of sitting in the grass. Which of course Sara and I found hilarious…oops :)

Being comforted by Mommy…and I want you all to know that the second and third photos were taken seconds apart. There is no question Maddie knows what she wants and is not afraid to get it!!

Not sure which I love more…Maddie’s face or Sara’s!!

Again, this was taken SECONDS after that last image.

THIS is what these Mommy and Me sessions are all about. Catching the sweet snuggles and the in between moments that mothers and daughters (or sons!) have so often.

Happy Wednesday everyone!! And if you’re interested in booking a Mommy and Me session there is a special going on until May 31st!! Contact me here to get more info and book your session!!

My Little Graduate

This past weekend I drove up to Carlisle, PA, more specifically to Dickinson College to watch my God-sister graduate from college. It was an amazing weekend complete with flashbacks to my own college graduation, peeks at Emily’s college life, typical graduation festivities, and a good amount of family time thrown right in the middle.

Emily, I’m SO incredibly proud of you. You entered college as my sweet baby sister, and have left as a beautiful, intelligent, driven women I’m proud to call my sister. There is not even a shadow of a doubt that you are going to change the world, and leave it a much better place than when you entered it. I love you so SO much!! Enjoy Big Girl World :)

And also, I’d like to shout out to another of my favorite people in the world, my best friend Jessica graduated from The Corcoran this weekend! Jessica I’m SO sorry I couldn’t be at your graduation, but I know you handled it – as you do all things – with beauty, grace, and poise. You are a beautiful person inside and out and I’m so incredibly proud to call you my best friend. And I hope you also enjoy Big Girl World! :)

 I see you!!

Walking down the steps, a Dickinson tradition!

 Favorite.

Love my beautiful sister!!

There was an ice sculpture outside the dining hall….how could we not get a photo with it?

And for all of Emily’s family and friends who’d like to see ALL of the photos I took this weekend, you can view them here.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me: Roadtrips

For those of you who don’t know, I spent the weekend up in Carlisle, PA watching my God-sister graduate from Dickinson College. It was such a great weekend, and I was so proud of my “baby sister” as I call her, as she took this gigantic leap into Big Girl World. One thing about having moved to Newport News, I’m now at the bottom of the state of Virginia, whereas before I was at the top. Meaning I spent about 6 hours on the road – one way – to get up to this momentous occasion in my sweet friend’s life. So I decided to do a little 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me post!! But this time, there’s a twist – it’s all about road-tripping!!

1. Sour Patch Kids are my official road trip food – even though they sometimes give me headaches – and for this I blame in full Miss Sarah Goodwin who surprised me with some when I second shot for her last weekend!

2. Leggings are the PERFECT road trip pant. Jeans are too tight and uncomfortable, skirts get in the way, leggings (or probably yoga pants also) are perfect.

3. The longer I’m in the car, the more spastic/impatient I get with the music. By the end of my 3-day/12-hour road trip I could barely make it through the opening chorus of one song before I had to change it.

4. I could absolutely never live in the country, but I could shoot a wedding there/drive there anytime. I love being the only car on the road.

5. I never get gas after dark. It just sketches me out. * Fun fact, I had to get some this trip around dusk, and was approached by a man in the gas station parking lot!! No worries, I’m still alive, but it just further solidified why I don’t get gas at night!!

6. I definitely don’t mind driving by myself – sometimes it’s pretty nice actually! But I do always enjoy a road trip buddy :)

7. Driving in the rain is the absolute worst. ‘Nuff said.

8. I have a love/hate relationship with “The Scenic Route.” Driving the scenic route is lovely – especially in the fall – but if I’m the one driving I can never take the time to enjoy it!

9. Inevitably I do some of my best thinking when I’m on the road by myself. New business ideas, life lessons, anything and everything.

10. I use the car as my personal office to catch up on phone calls. First up on my list always? My dad.

What are some of your road trip tendencies? And just because I love her so much and am SO proud of her, here’s a little sneak at Emily’s graduation weekend!!
