The Sun After the Rain

Throughout our lives, we go through times of turbulence. Times that we wish we didn’t have to go through, that we wish would just pass by quickly in the night, and that we’d never even be aware of them. But you see, the thing is we have to go through these times. We have to experience the hardships to really appreciate the good stuff. There’s this phrase that is totally corny but I absolutely love, and it’s about not waiting for the rain to pass, but rather learning to dance through the storm. And I honestly and truly believe that. It is so easy to get bogged down by the gray skies and the rain storms that we forget about finding the joy in the rain. We forget that the rain is necessary, that it replenishes the earth and clears the way for new life. We forget about the rainbows that fill the skies once the rain has passed. We search the skies before the storm waiting for it to arrive, but often forget to take a peek outside after the rain is gone. And that’s often when the most beautiful things come out to play.

So today, friends, whatever rain cloud is covering your sunny skies, remember to embrace it, and dance your way through it. And don’t ever forget to scan the skies after the rain has passed. Because you never know when a rainbow might come out to play.

Beach Day

Friday was Matt’s birthday, and I was working from home, but he had to work, so we spent the morning together and left it at that. Until he called me about two hours after he left and told me to get dressed, he was coming home and what did I think about going to the beach?! I was elated. It’s not often Matt and I get a day off together! So we packed Bailey up in the car and headed to Yorktown Beach. It was the perfect day where you couldn’t even feel the air, just the salty wind off the water and the warm sun – until it went behind the trees. Spending the day walking around with Matt made me remember that it’s not always about schedules and lists, or paychecks and clients. Sometimes, just sometimes, it’s about sitting on a beach with the boy you’ve got this crazy crush on and watching the sailboats go by.

Genevieve Maren: Newborn

Last month I drove up to Northern Virginia and had the absolute pleasure of meeting a brand new, beautiful baby girl. Genevieve was exactly a week old when I met her and she was (and is) perfect. Genevieve’s Momma, Catherine and I went to CNU together, and although she graduated a few years before I did I was so excited when she asked me about doing newborn photos!! In honor of Mother’s day being yesterday I wanted to take today to celebrate this new Momma and her angel of a baby girl! Genevieve was so good, whether she was sleeping or awake, the only time she cried was when she didn’t have any clothes/blankets on her! We had a couple interruptions for feeding and diaper changing, but as I explained to Catherine and John that’s totally normal during a newborn session! They don’t care what we’re doing, they care that they’re hungry, and that’s okay!! :)  I love doing newborn sessions and seeing the new parents as they care for this new little life in their hands. The unconditional love that springs up immediately is wonderful to watch. I love watching and having the opportunity to document a family grow by one new member. It really is a special time in a family’s life and I adore getting to be a part of it!

Catherine and John thank you for opening your home to me right in the midst of this crazy and exciting change in your lives! I am so excited for you THREE!

Catherine and John have two adorable Min Pin puppies – Darcy and Trevor, who see themselves as Genevieve’s pseudo parents.

The blanket that she’s laying on was Catherine’s grandmother’s baby blanket! Talk about a special hand-me-down!!

Trevor wasn’t quite sure what to make of me and my big camera. He had to make sure his baby was safe!

LOVE!! Catherine, Motherhood looks AMAZING on you!!

Of course, Darcy had to be right in there haha!

Sweet family of five!! Trevor’s not too excited about being in the photo though, and Darcy is too interested in what Genevieve is doing!

John said that one of his favorite Fatherhood moments so far is when Genevieve holds onto his finger with her tiny little hand, so we made sure to get a photo of that sweet Father Daughter moment!!

Happy Monday everyone!!
